Impact of Dispersion Fluctuations on 40-Gb/s Dispersion-Managed Lightwave Systems

چکیده
We study numerically the impact of random dispersion fluctuations on the performance of 40-Gb/s dispersion-managed lightwave systems designed using either the chirped return-to-zero or the soliton format and employing backward-pumped distributed Raman amplification. We consider two-section dispersion maps with 2 = 4 and 8 ps km and show that the parameter decreases rapidly in both cases as the nonlinear effects become stronger. The impact of dispersion fluctuations can be reduced by lowering the average input power, but the system length is then limited by amplifier noise.

Pulse broadening induced by dispersion fluctuations in optical fibers
A general theory is presented to describe the effects of dispersion fluctuations on optical pulses propagating inside single-mode fibers modeled as a linear dispersive medium. It is shown that the pulse broadening induced by dispersion fluctuations can be quite large in dispersion-managed lightwave systems, especially at high bit rates, and can exceed that induced by third-order dispersion and ...
متن کاملPERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT OF 10 Gb/s DISPERSION MANAGED SOLITON COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS: AN ANALYTICAL APPROACH
In this paper, we assess the performance of 10 Gb/s dispersion managed soliton communication systems using an analytical approach. The benefits of enhanced power solitons over conventional solitons are carefully evaluated. It is shown that transmission beyond 10 Mm is possible using an appropriate dispersion map, without any additional soliton control technique. An optimum path-average dispersi...
متن کاملWideband Tunable Dispersion Compensator Using a 25-Stage PLC-MZI
In high-bit-rate optical transmission systems that are being introduced into commercial applications, such as those with 40-Gbps bit-rate, there is a need for tunable dispersion compensators (TDCs) in order to additively compensate for chromatic dispersion (CD) fluctuations due to temperature changes and the like in the transmission lines. Accordingly, a variety of TDCs based on different princ...
متن کاملGb / s soliton transmission in a densely dispersion - managed ber in the presence of variable dispersion and polarization - mode dispersion
One of the major limitations on transmission speed per single-channel in dispersion-managed soliton (DMS) systems is soliton interactions between neighboring pulses induced by large pulse breathing within one dispersion-management period [1]. To o vercome this limitation, densely dispersion-managed soliton (DDMS) system was recently proposed, and it is numerically demonstrated that 80 Gb/s soli...
متن کاملReduction of the Impact of Group Delay Ripples in 10-Gb/s NRZ Grating-Compensated Dispersion-Managed fiber System Using Nonlinear Optical Loop-Mirrors
We investigate the re-amplification and reshaping using nonlinear optical loopmirrors in a 10-Gb/s non-return-to-zero grating-compensated dispersion-managed transmission line with standard fibers. A large improvement of the system performance is achieved.
